Leku Sandi - Port Elizabeth's own Good Samaritan
Leku Sandi Promotions. You have more than likely never heard the name before. It is not a big organisation. It is the work of one incredible man. Leku, a former professional boxer, singlehandedly approaches business owners and individuals to help with donations of old clothing or cash.
The clothing collected is then distributed amongst the very needy. The money collected, which is often not very much at all, is used to purchase new school shoes or uniforms.

Sometimes with the help of a few generous companies, he is able to raise enough money to put one or two really deserving young people through University or College.
In the past Leku arranged open air fundraising events in his own community, asking a very small entry fee, hoping to raise the funds needed to help feed, clothe and educate the people who need it so desperately.
This man, who is no longer young and battling with a very painful knee, walks from door to door to raise the money needed. Mostly having to rely on donations of as little as five or ten rand from individuals. His determination and dedication to the cause of the much less fortunate makes him an Angel in my eyes.
What can you do to help him make a difference?
If you feel that you are able to help you can contact him at 80 Maselana Street, New Brighton or contact the following people.
Thandi: 076 767 5034 /
Thobeka: 073 455 0854

Many people rely on the work that Leku Sandi does and are only too grateful for the gifts of clothing that he as collected. |
Leku often has up to 50 children standing around at his house waiting hopefully for some food. He calls them "his angels".
Why does he do what he does?
In his own words, "My hope is that by helping these children they will remember it and do the same when they are grown up."
