Bathurst
The town of Bathurst is known for many things. It was the administrative centre for the 1820 British Settlers, It has a huge pineapple and it is where you will find the oldest inn in South Africa.
The Bathurst Methodist Church, also known as the Weslyan Church, was built in 1832. The Church has been declared a National Monument .
 
Many have chosen this town as the perfect place to retire. Quite a few artists have also decided to settle here. With it's small town charm it is no wonder they have chosen Bathurst as their new home.

Bathurst is only 12 kilometres away from Port Alfred on the Grahamstown road. You can't help but notice the enormous pineapple there. It is the largest pineapple in the world, just over 16 metres high.
The pineapple farm is well known in this area. There are also fields of ornamental pineapples which are used for decoration and in flower arangements.
The Museum in Bathurst holds
Once a year Bathurst has it's agricultural show and people travel from all around to attend this well known event. There are stalls and livestock sales and even a lovely traditional show jumping event. It is always an enjoyable event.
