OUTsurance

Schoenmakerskop is set above the rocky beaches where the sound of the waves crashing on the rocks below makes for a great place to spend some time away from hustle and bustle.

From the car park opposite the restaurant you can make your way down the stairs to the small pebble filled beach below. It is a perfect spot to get your feet wet and enjoy your picnic lunch.

People often take a quick dip in the water or just spend time walking on the rocks. It is a very popular spot in the summer holiday months.

Many find it the perfect spot to take their dogs for walks. No matter what you go there for you will feel rested and renewed once you leave.

Schoenmakerskop is at the start of the Sacramento trail. Here you will find one of the cannons from the ill-fated Portuguese Galleon, the Sacramento which sank off Devils Reef on 30 June 1647. The cannon points towards the site of the wreckage. This cannon is one of 40 cannons salvaged from the wreckage in 1977.

72 People survived the wreck and ventured on foot towards Mozambique. A distance of 1300 kilometres. Only nine survived the treacherous journey to make it to Delagoa Bay (Maputo) on 5 January 1648.

When you take the nature walk you might come across a tortoise or two. Stop and spend some time at one of the many rock pools.
